In our world peer pressure is strong.  As our kids go back to school, we get back into the hustle and bustle of work schedules, after school sports, you name it, the pressure is going to be on to conform, or fit in.

“Our society comes at us very hard in all areas of belief systems.  There is a lot of peer pressure to convince us what truth is, and it is all based on feelings: ‘Well, that just doesn’t feel right, does it?  I can’t imagine a God who would do that.”  Rooted

What does one believe today?  Our teachers/professors will say one thing, people with the opposite view say something else and the papers – well, let’s just say they’re no Walter Cronkite.  What can we believe?  The Bible.

“If we don’t have our roots in Scripture, we are going to be in serious trouble when peer pressure comes against us to tell us what “truth” is.  Before we know it, we’re going to wake up and realize that at some point we stopped following Jesus and started following the voice of the crowd.  If we are not only to resist the peer pressure of our culture but are also to push back with the pressure and influence of the kingdom – which is our mandate – then we must put our roots down deep in the Word.”  Rooted, by Banning Liebscher, pg. 95

I encourage you to find some time today to read God’s Word.  His Word is truth. “For the Word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.” (Psalm 33:14, NIV)  Find a book with devotionals in it, or start reading the Book of John in the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John).  He wants you to be able to stand up against peer pressure and KNOW TRUTH.

In His Rest,                                                                                                                                                                 Jackie Scott
